Top Finnish Choir visits Krakow

Chamber choir Utopia from Helsinki, Finland, gave a concert in Krakow on Friday October 14th, 2007.

The Krakow concert included Finnish choral works mainly from modern repertoire. The program presented many of the most prominent contemporary choral composers, such as Juhani Komulainen and Tapani Länsiö. As a speciality, Utopia gave the first performance of a piece written especially for the Cracowian audience.

The other half of the program was dedicated to romanticism, including works of Jean Sibelius, the Finnish national composer, and a set of British romantic choir songs, which were quite sweet and unique.

The Utopia Chamber Choir was founded in 2001 by a group of young singers with wide experience on the Helsinki choral scene.
The choir is made up of 16 singers, and even though it specialises in early music it has also performed several new Finnish works. The group has an artistic director but likes to invite guest conductors for certain projects. The choir invites to Visit their website at: www.utopiachoir.org
