ESS Scandinavia meeting in Krakow
At the ministerial meeting in Brussels on 28th May 2009 an agreement was reached among 12 countries to choose Lund/Copenhagen as location of ESS Scandinavia and to give the two co-hosting countries Sweden and Danmark, the mandate to prepare and start the Design Update process.
The European Spallation Source (ESS) in Lund (S) and Copenhagen (DK) will provide a unique source of neutrons that will enable scientists to study a wide range of materials - including cells - over length and time - scales that are not accessible now, they will be able to make movies, revealing behaviour at the molecular and atomic level, and observing all states of matter with unimaginable precision and resolution.
The whole project will finish in 2020 and the cost will be 1,4 bln. euro.
